2012 Porsche 911

The Porsche 911 stands as one of the most venerable and respected lines of vehicles ever developed. Introduced in 1963, the Porsche 911 has undergone a number of developmental changes while still maintaining the basic concept of the 911. The 2012 type 997 continues this heritage today in the finest traditions of Porsche AG. With a coupe, a cabriolet or convertible and a Targa version in addition to the GT series, the Porsche 911 offers something for every Porsche enthusiast.

Porsche states that they have recreated the 911 for 2012 with ninety percent of the components either new or redesigned. While using technological innovations brought from their racing division, the 911 remains a timeless beauty in the world of sports

cars. Direct fuel injection and VarioCam Plus help to increase power and reduce fuel consumption. The new Porsche 911 offers the choice of either a new seven-speed manual gearbox or the Porsche PDK automatic transmission. When mated to the Porsche six-cylinder engines, the new 911 provides enough power for even the most discerning driver. Track speeds for the type 997 range from a top of 177 mph for the Carrera to an amazing 205 mph for the GT2.

While the exterior received a facelift including LED lights for the turn signals, daytime and side marker lights, it remains distinctly a 911. The integrated air intakes, along with the classic look of the rounded headlights, make the front of the new 911 unmistakable. The updated 911 offers improved performance and comfort along with a more solid-looking stance due to a longer wheelbase and shorter overhang front and rear, in addition to new 19-inch and 20-inch wheels. The side view of the 911 reveals more changes to the exterior including a sleeker, lower roofline and side view mirrors positioned on the doors for better aerodynamics. Moving to the rear of the new 911, improvements include new LED taillights and a wider version of the 911's famous extendable spoiler that applies more down force.

Porsche did not forget about the interior of the 2012 911 either. In keeping with Porsche's philosophy of comfort going hand in hand with performance, the 911 maintains the best of previous models while adding refinements to both the comfort level and styling of the interior. While the tachometer still remains center stage in the instrument cluster as tradition dictates, new power-adjustable sports seats and a newly designed center console add to the feeling of comfort and luxury. Standard features of the Porsche 911 now include zonal climate controls and a nine-speaker 235-watt audio system. A 4.6-inch TFT high-resolution display for use with the onboard computer, audio and navigation systems comes standard for 2012 as well. With a choice of interior materials and colors, the 2012 Porsche 911 allows for a variety of personal touches throughout the vehicle.

Overall, while making the changes to bring the 911 into the future, Porsche has managed to retain all the best qualities of the 911 ensuring that it will remain one of the most sought after sports cars.
